Fight Back Festival is the Cancer Community Center’s largest annual fundraiser.  It is a family biking, running and walking event held, annually, at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester.  There is something for everyone at this beautiful day of strength, hope and rememberance.

All registrants in the bike, run or walk receive a complimentary BBQ lunch with beer (ID is required).  You may upgrade to Lobster for $20.  You may purchase additional meals for family and friends which are $5 for BBQ and $20 for lobster.

Registration fees also includes:

  • Finisher Mugs
  • Live Music
  • Children’s Entertainment & Activities
  • Survivor Bandanas for Cancer Survivors
  • Tribute Signs & Ribbons to be worn and/or added to our Tribute Wall
  • Overall and age group prizes for the 5K Trail Race
  • Top Individual & Team Fundraising Prizes

Not Dead Yet Bike Ride participants have a choice of 10, 25 or 60 mile rides.  The selection you make today for a distance is just to give us an idea as to how many people to expect for each ride and can be changed at any time.  There are good rolling hills with some challenging terrain on all three routes, but many of the most challenging hills in the area have been avoided.

Run & Walk participants have a choice of a 5K trail race, 5K walk or 1mile stroll.  All routes are on the trails at Pineland with the exception of the 1 mile stroll which is 95% on paved roads and suitable for strollers and small children on bikes.  (We are no longer offering the 10K Race as the number of runners in this event has declined each year and the 5K has grown significantly.)

5K Trail Race & Walk Course Description -  The race and walk course is 5kilometer off-road roller coasters on well-maintained cross country trails that twist, turn, and roll their way through forests, through fields and past working farmland. The trails are level, wide (12′), and non-technical with no roots or rocks, but very hilly.  Although there are no major climbs, the terrain is continuously rolling. The surface of the trails is mainly grass and dirt sprinkled with pine needles, pine cones, twigs, and small stones. Trail running shoes are recommended but not necessary.

Kids Fun Run - This non-competitive run is a 1/3 mile run on the trails at Pineland. They will start at the same start line as the 5K race & walk. They will then take a sharp turn at the first trail intersection to swing back around and come up the hill to the finish line. All finishers will receive a medal.  This is not timed. Children of all ages are encouraged to participate. Parents are encouraged to accompany smaller children on the run.

Fundraising – We encourage all participants to raise additional funds to support the Cancer Community Center by personalizing your fundraising page today.  Our goal is to raise over $110,000 from this year’s event.  All proceeds help the Cancer Community Center to provide free wellness classes and emotional support to Mainers touched by cancer.  The Center is located in South Portland, Maine and provides one-to-one support across the state through The Maine Buddy Program.  All offline donations should be mailed to the Cancer Community Center at 778 Main St. South Portland, Maine 04106.  Please be sure to reference the name of the fundraiser so that we can credit them properly.  All checks should be made out to the Cancer Community Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose federal tax id is 01-0513301.

The Haley Cup - Established in 2012 is awarded annually to the top fundraising team at Fight Back Festival.  The Haley Cup was named to honor Tim Haley (1967-2012) and his inspirational Team Headstrong.  The Cancer Community Center is honored to have been the beneficiary of Tim’s tireless commitment and infectious enthusiasm and trusts the team that wins this Cup each year will share in his passion for supporting those affected by cancer.
